3 Spooky Short Stories
Instead of doing a standard blog I decided to use one of the prompts and redesigned the cover for a book, but instead of doing my blog on a normal book I read a couple short stories by the same author. The 3 short stories I read were Landlady, Lamb to the Slaughter, and Way up to Heaven which were all written by Roald Dahl. They are all relatively short, about 8 or so pages. While I did say they were scary stories they aren’t really; they are all relatively normal stories but all have some weird or creepy twist at the end. Because of this it's going to be a struggle to explain the cover without giving away spoilers. I recommend just reading the stories as it takes about an hour and if you only have 15 minutes just read Lamb to the Slaughter as it's definitely my favorite of the bunch.
The reason I chose the dark building as the background is because every single one of the stories takes place in unnamed cities. The table and everything on it is a reference to Lamb to Slaughter which doesn’t have a big plot twist at the end, but I still really don’t want to spoil it as there is a twist that occurs half way through. The mannequin relates to Landlady which has a man stay at a Bread and Breakfast with an odd Landlady. The clock at the back which obviously isn’t a part of the background is a part of the final book I read, Way up to Heaven. I don’t know what I can tell about this without giving away something as its the shortest and is only about 4 pages long, so I’ll once again beg everyone to read the short stories.

I like the concept of your book cover, it includes different elements from each story and fits the horror-ish theme of the stories. I also always enjoy scary short stories with unexpected twists. Because you recommended it, I will definitely at least check out Lamb to the Slaughter.
ReplyDeleteI like that you thought of the background to be dark because of the unnamed cities and thats pretty cool. I will definitely look at Lamb to the Slaughter.
ReplyDeleteI love the connection between the unnamed cities and the dark background. It makes the cover very specific to the stories. The elements added to the cover nicely incorporate different elements of the stories.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job tying everything together on the cover, especially considering you only had a few pages per story. The way you used different references; the table from Lamb to the Slaughter, the mannequin from Landlady, and the clock from Way up to Heaven all work splendidly with the dark background that draws from each of the stories. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great cover, especially with the references to content in the story which I found interesting. The scene that you made does in fact resemble an off-putting somewhat scary book. The objects in the cover all contribute to a sense of fear and nervousness. Wonderful job!
